Let's get to know each other

I'm Shannon Fenner. Around these parts of North Carolina, more folks know me by my maiden name of Shannon Bowman. The Bowman clan are nearly famous for some pretty cool things (and probably some shameful things too, but we won't mention those). From pioneer tobacco farmers, entrepenuers and now a semi-professional wrestler, we are quite a colorful bunch.

I put new meaning into the phrase blended family when this recently divorced mom of two locked her Irish eyes on a hunky African-American single dad. When my four year old red-headed son looked up at mister tall dark and handsome and uttered the words, "will you marry my mama?" I knew I was in trouble.

Fifteen years have passed since then and our blended family in more ways than one now consists of the proverbial his, mine and ours plus an unexpected blessing of raising a soon to be our adopted toddler.

Mister tall dark and handsome bares the name Reggie. We have a total of four "grown and gone" young adult children. The red-headed four year old who is responsible for this whole thing with his marriage proposal is now 20 and I lovingly refer to him as, "the man child". He is recently home again from college although we think that will be short lived. The "ours" of the group, is Rachel Elizabeth, who recently reached her right of passage as an official teenager. The final one at home is Kynleigh, my almost three year old granddaughter who we have been parenting for the past two years.

That's a little about who I am and I really hope to get to know my readers. We are real folks with some of the same real struggles others face. I hope you will join me with a cup a coffee and let's have some good conversation.

Why The Fenner Points?

This site was once a vision some years ago when I was tackleing the task of homeschooling three children while working full time as the general manager of our local hometown newspaper. I was seeking ways to work from home and still be able to keep a roof over our head. The vision was there but with all I had going on there was no time to dedicate to making it happen. The vision has finally come to fruition and the journey to it becoming a reality is part of what lended itself to making it happen.

Home-based and small business help

In 2014, I was desperate for a way to be home with the little one.  With some careful planning and a lot of faith and prayer, I left my job at the newspaper and opened my own marketing company.  Mom and Pop Marketing was started to help local businesses with their digital media needs. We build websites for small businesses and manage social media accounts for little shops that want to engage on those channels but don't have the time or knowledge to do so. It has been a blessed year and still growing. I will be sharing some small business advice and tips along with some do's and don'ts that I have learned. You can learn about Social Media Management and perhaps put it to use in your hometown for local businesses.

Health crisis leads to search for natural cures

My husband suffered a stroke in 2014 due to complications with high blood pressure and diabetes. After that time he and I have gotten serious about learning ways to take better care of the vessels the good Lord gave us.  We would love to share what we have learned on the journey. We can tell you what worked, what didn't and what products we have found to be worth the cost.

Healthier eating and home cooked meals

Part of the journey to a healthier Fenner family has involved cooking more meals at home. I will share some recipies and meal planning tactics I have picked up along the way. I am also looking to do some make a head freezer meals and will share how that experience goes.

Raising your grandchildren

I know I am not alone in this journey of raising a grandchild as that family dynamic seems to be occuring more and more. It can be challenging and hopefully we can lean on each other from time to time. We plan to start the adoption process for our little grand soon and I will share the journey.

There are several other topics we may touch on from time to time. Please visit often. I look forward to our friendship. Feel free to contact me anytime.
