Joint pain relief with gelatin
This post is compliments of my dear friend, Heather Hampton. Visit her blog at Promised Land Ministries.
So, here's a health tip for you if you suffer with any joint pain. Many know about my shoulder injury because I updated occasionally on Facebook, but most don't know I had also hurt my back recently, leaving me unable to do much of the exercise I had been accustomed to. I haven't spoken about it much, because I don't want to complain. Last weekend, I was in a lot of pain...enough that it was difficult for me to function..pretty bad for the pain tolerant person I generally am. I read an article suggesting taking gelatin could help with pain, along with a host of other things. I had some in the house, so on a whim, I dissolved 1/2 Tbsp unflavored gelatin (not the sweetened jello) into a cup of hot chicken broth. (I'm not a coffee drinker, so chicken broth is my 'coffee'. LOL) I was to teach Sunday School the following morning, but I didn't know how I could if I felt as bad as I had been through the weekend.
Well, lo and behold, when I woke up THE NEXT MORNING, my pain was 90% gone! I was able to function with only an occasional rest period through the day. This was definitely enough incentive for me to keep it up, and I've continued...twice a day, morning and night for the entire week. It's probably not necessary to do it twice, but with the challenges I've had recently, I thought it was a good idea for a short time anyway.
This is the best week I've had pain-wise since I hurt my shoulder. I don't know if it works that quickly for everyone, but for me this has been like a miracle. My chiropractor thought it was funny, but I won't be needing to see him as often. I'll take a $10 canister of gelatin over a doctor's visit any day! And as icing on the cake, my skin hasn't looked better in many years. As long as I can remember, my skin has been extremely dry and scaly looking without lotion of some kind. I've hardly used any this week, and my skin is so much smoother and the dryness is also at least 90% better.
So, if you have issues with pain, give the gelatin a try. It's cheap and easy to do! You have nothing to lose.
As far as instructions on the gelatin You can do it however you like. I read some people eat it straight, but I'm not sure I could do that. I think Great Lakes gelatin makes a kind that can be dissolved in cold things, so you could use it in smoothies and such. Knox doesn't dissolve in cold though..comes out gritty. My son does his in hot tea. It doesn't have a taste, so you can use it in anything.
